What a great afternoon we had celebrating the Queen's Golden Jubilee. The children went outside for some fun and games, and then had a 'street' party. We recorded a video of them taking part in a whole school dance, and created a slideshow of their party.
Well done to the pupils who received an award in todays achievement assembly.
This weeks achievements were for the Summer Fair poster competition, and the Jubilee Poem challenge. Congratulations to Lily who won the poster competition, and to John Jo who wrote the winning poem. Well done to all the runners up too.
Happy half term everyone! Enjoy the special Bank Holiday this weekend - it's not everyday that we celebrate 60 years of rule for a Monarch. There are so many special, one off, events planned at lots of places that you can get involved with.
If you are doing something special - why not log into PurpleMash afterwards, and write about what you did.
If you pop your work in your learning space, or email it porchesterjuniorschool (AT) googlemail.com we'll showcase the best on the website.
Whilst you're using PurpleMash you might also want to visit 2Paint and create a Royal picture, or maybe 2Design and Make and create a Royal car, train, or even your own crown. You could even create your own animated banner using 2Animate, and don't forget 2DIY3D - can you think of a 3D maze idea about the Royal celebrations?
We would like to thank everybody who made cakes for the sale. And more inportantly we would like to point out that we have raised... £124.28! All of this money will be going towards the trim tail in the privelage area.
The school jubilee cakesale has sold a lot of cakes and ran out. So if you could, bring some more cakes in [to be sold tomorrow, Friday 1st June] and tell the school office and the chairman of the school council (Hadleigh).
[Thank you for the cakes that you baked for today]
A reminder to say that all children are invited to wear red, white and blue clothes tomorrow. There is no charge but we would like as many of you as possible to send in donations for the summer fair's tombola and raffle. Please pass any donations of prizes / gifts to the school office.
Please also remember to send in some party food!
You may remember that just before the Easter holidays there was an accident outside of school involving one of our pupils. It upset quite a few of the children, and some of Year 5 in class 3 wanted to do something to raise awareness of Road Safety.
For the past half term on a Thursday afternoon a group of 5 children have been planning, storyboarding, scripting, looking for filming locations and selecting actors for a Road Safety movie.
Last Thursday (when the weather finally stopped raining!) those children went outside and recorded all the parts of their video using an iPhone, and then used iMovie to put everything together, add sound effects, titles and transitions.
The result of their work is stunning- and available for you to watch below. We hope that you agree with the staff in saying that the children have created a hard hitting, but neccessary, message about Road Safety.
If you make use of our Facebook page to keep in touch with school you may have noticed that it has changed over the past few days. Those changes are as follows;
- There is a new 'Media' tab with our latest Vimeo video creations
- There is a new 'Tweets' tab with our latest tweets posted to the school Twitter account
- There is a new 'Images' tab with our latest photos on our Flickr account
In addition to these new additions, we've also decided to cut down on the amount of information placed on our school page. We are no longer listing our latest tweets on the school wall (but you can still see those tweets using the 'Tweets' tab), and instead will be focusing on relevant messages aimed at parents. This change has already seen an increase in the interaction on the page between school and parents, including replies from the school to the comments left by parents.
Finally, we've begun using a service provided by SocialSchoolMedia that helps us to control access to our Facebook page. If you visit our page and click on any of the tabs, you will be asked to 'Like' * the page before you can view the content - it helps us prevent people 'browsing' through the content we place on there, and keeps the people we communicate with relevant to our school.
*We know that some parents are concerned about 'Liking' the school page in case we can see the information that they post on their Facebook accounts. However, unless you have chosen to share your content with the world, then we can't! We will only be able to see your profile image. Nothing more.
Today the whole school have been outside - one class at a time - to learn how to dance around the Maypole. The children have had great fun...
